Steve Briese is widely acknowledged as the expert's expert in analyzing the (COT) Commitments of Trader's data released each week by the Commodity Futures Trading Commission. For those of you who are not familiar with it, this data provides a window into how the key market players are aligned in the markets at any given time (the large speculators, small speculators, hedgers, CTAs and funds).

In 1994 Steve was interviewed by Futures magazine and he said:

"Legendary trader Daniel Drew is credited with the adage 'anybody who plays the market without inside information is like a man buying cows in the moonlight.' Large commercial hedging firms enjoy an enormous inside informational advantage over other market participants. The COT report levels the playing field by exposing the players behind the trades. Indeed, trading without reference to it might well be likened to buying cows in the moonlight" - Steve Briese 1994 Futures Magazine Interview

This is a quote that reveals a lot about how Steve approaches his analysis.

At critical junctures, COT data alerts those who are expert in reading it to the continuation of prevailing moves or impending turning points in the markets. In truth it is frequently over-looked or misinterpreted by those who are not well-versed in understanding how to interpret this "legal inside information."

This is where Steve Briese comes in. No one has the experience and legacy of exploiting the importance of this data like Steve has.
